The White Hart Lane Travel Guide

So, you’re on your way to see the mighty Tottenham Hotspurs! Hopefully this guide will provide you with some useful travel and tour information. Enjoy the game!

Tottenham are one of England’s most prestigious football clubs and they have played their football at White Hart Lane since 1899. Although Tottenham have already agreed a deal to build a new football stadium, White Hart Lane will forever be regarded as their spiritual home and they will try to take the culture, history and heritage to their new complex.

Every week, fans from all over the United Kingdom travel down to north London to watch their beloved Spurs play in the English Premier League, but people also travel to the venue throughout the week to visit the ground and the surrounding area as well. We take a look at a few of the key attractions in and around the ground and discuss the various travel options that you can take in order to get to the stadium.

Getting to the stadium

Okay, so firstly, you need to get to the stadium. There are a number of ways to do this, both via public or private transport. Trains into London Euston are regular and from the main train station, there are plenty of options to get to north London. You can go underground or overground and it’s incredibly easy to use either the tube or train service. If it’s easier for you to get the bus, there are plenty of excellent bus services that begin at the Seven Sisters and run just past the stadium. Or, if you’re transferring at Tottenham Hale Station, there is a taxi rank, which is well worth getting if you are in a group of four.

In terms of driving, it’s not recommended as there is a limited amount of parking around the ground. But if you have a long journey and don’t want to get the train, you could park up at a nearby tube station and get the tube near to the stadium. Ultimately, there are plenty of options and it’s entirely up to you to decide which is the easiest, and most efficient, option to get into the Tottenham area. A word of caution, though, all of the public transport options will be extremely busy and you should allow yourself plenty of time to get into the general vicinity of the ground or else risk missing part or all of the match.

What to do outside the ground?

You find yourself outside of the stadium but now what? Well, you could enjoy a pint in one of the many public houses that surround the stadium or simply take yourself to the club shop and browse the official merchandise. The club shop is a huge favourite with tourists and visitors on match days and can get exceptionally busy. So, we advise getting yourself into the general area well before kick-off to ensure that you don’t miss any of the warm-up or match whilst you queue up to purchase your new jersey or scarf.

You don’t even need to buy anything in the shop but it is well worth a visit. In fact, it is widely regarded as one of the best club shops in the Premier League. The Spurs store is always well stocked and is home to thousands of unique items – you won’t find half of the stock anywhere else. After a quick search in the shop, a pint is definitely needed. The Corner Pin and The Bricklayers Arms are both fan favourites with the home support and making your way to the pub should be one of the key components of your match day experience. While younger fans may be happy enough with Tottenham tickets, older match-goers prefer the opportunity to enjoy a drink prior to the big game.

Take part in one of their stadium tours

One for the family, the stadium tour is suitable for Tottenham fans of all ages and is sure to add that little bit extra to your match weekend. Although you cannot complete the stadium tour on match days for obvious reasons, there is plenty of opportunity to take part in the tour throughout the week. You can truly experience Tottenham’s history and culture as you are taken on a journey throughout the illustrious heritage of the club. There is the chance to take the general tour or enjoy the company of a Tottenham Hotspur legend throughout the stadium walk.

The tour is fascinating and is reasonably priced. To be honest, it’s one of those trips that just has to be done and all Spurs fans will probably experience the White Hart Lane stadium tour at some point in their lives. When the club moves onto its new home, there will be a dedicated area to the former stadium and its illustrious history. After all, Tottenham have enjoyed plenty of success at their current stadium over the years and may it live long in the memory of every Spurs fan to enter the terraces at White Hart Lane.

We hope you’ve enjoyed this guide to White Hart Lane and we hope you enjoy your day with Tottenham. Remember, TO DARE IS TO DO!
