Is the Premier League about to create a significant gap from the other major European leagues? From a financial perspective, that seems to be the case. The sum of the current transfer window, which was closed yesterday (Tues Sept 1st) was on 870 Million Pounds (1.18 Billion Euros) for Premier League clubs. the highest amount across all European leagues.

Italian Serie A teams had spent the 2nd highest amount with 610m Euros, Spanish league teams 542m Euros, Bundesliga 393m Euros and French league teams have spent 298m Euros.

If adding the data from this transfer window with the January window earlier this year, Premier League teams have spent over 1 BILLION pounds! This figure is an increase of 4% compared to 2014. This is following the increase in broadcasting rights income, in particular league event rights that will be raised next year from 3 Billion to 5.1 Billion pounds. Also, all 20 Premier League teams are amongst the top 40 clubs with the highest incomes in world football.

The “Winning” club who spent the most is Manchester City, they spent more than 160 million pounds on Raheem Sterling, Nicolas Otamendi, Kevin De Bruyne and Fabian Delph. Manchester United spent 90 million pounds this transfer window, compared to 85m last season.

The sum of the 4 major clubs – Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal currently stands at 340 million pounds That equals 40% of the entire Premier League spend. The most expensive transfer was Belgian attacker Kevin De Bruyne, who cost 55 million pounds moving from Wolfsburg to Manchester City.

Premier League clubs have spent 90 million pounds on the final day of the transfer window, 5 million more than last season. Man City broke their own record twice this summer, spending 49m pounds on Sterling and then De Bruyne for 55m pounds.
